Why should someone buy this store?

This would be a great small business for someone who isn't sure where to start but wants to start somewhere. I've already set up the core operations you'll need and all you need to do is be creative and help it grow.

I'm looking only to recoup what I've put into it so far, so I'm pricing the site as low as possible. Only costs are Shopify, and advertising. Advertising is scalable so basically you can put as little or as much into this as you want.

If this site does not sell before the end of December, I'm going to take it off the exchange and put it in cold storage until I have more time to work on it, because I really do believe in the idea.

There is a market - advertising is cheap, earned $180 in revenue within two weeks of launching after ~$80 in ad spend. However, due to my day job I haven't had the time to work on it, and will not for the foreseeable future. If I did I'd be putting a lot of energy into this site.

Bookends are a decorative product that appeals to many consumer segments. I've explored a few of them and would be happy to provide my thoughts and findings. All products have been added through Oberlo - easy to manage, update.

Competition is larger brands that don't pay attention to this kind of product, extremely expensive but craftsmanship-oriented bookend designers, mom and pop antique shops, and Etsy shops, which could easily be approached for a dropshipping agreement. There is definitely room for a middle-market bookend provider that claims quality at an affordable price.

How can the future owner improve the business?

  • Branding (has custom logo but could be improved)

  • Grow social media presence and following, especially on pinterest
  • Copywriting/product descriptions
  • SEO in general
  • Improve product offerings
  • Remove photos of products with Chinese text and/or expand market from US-only to more countries.
  • Run more collection-targeting campaigns
  • There also occasional bookend fads that could be capitalized upon. Some bloggers post 'bookends you need to have' articles, etc. Approach for linkback opportunities, look for similar available products and market those, and so on. Some of these specific fads have surprisingly high search rates compared to bookends in general.
