Bowzer Box was founded in February 2014. We acquired the company in September 2017. We’re two brothers (and dog owners) with a desire to deliver the best dog-inspired treats and toys with Canadian pride.

We began in a two-car garage picking, packing and shipping each box ourselves. Starting in January 2018, we made the decision to outsource this portion of the business to a fulfillment centre in Ottawa, Ontario to allow us to grow even further.

In February 2018 we launched our new logo, branding, packaging, and website. With our commitment to keep our furry pals, and their pet parents happy, we wanted Bowzer Box to be synonymous with quality dog treats, toys, and the coolest accessories, all sent straight to our customers homes.

Bowzer Box focuses exclusively on the Canadian market. We ship a box of goodies to dogs across Canada stretching from Vancouver to Nunavut and as far east to Newfoundland and Labrador. Our operations are based out of Ottawa, Ontario.

We are without a doubt, the leading Canadian-based box subscription service for dogs. Our brand is becoming well known with dog owners, and their pups, and we have a loyal customer base. The fact that we are Canadian-based and focus on shipping Canadian-made products is what gives us a clear advantage over our US competitors.

Due to the growth of the company and the volume we ship each month, we were able to secure one of the highest partner levels with Canada Post ensuring we’re paying some of the lowest rates for shipping. That being said, shipping in Canada is expensive and we haven’t reached a level yet where we can offer free shipping. This will come in due time!

We also have solid partnerships with several large and small suppliers across Canada giving us access to quality dog treats and toys at discounted rates.

We fully utilize Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to reach out to our customers sending several posts per month and encouraging customer engagement.

Included in the sale are the domain names, the Shopify online store, our customer accounts, email marketing lists, social media sites, all physical inventory, and digital marketing material.

Financials and traffic

We made significant changes to the company since the acquisition. Our goal was to make the company profitable within a 12 month period. In the first 6 months, we’ve been able to turn around a struggling company, which was losing money month-over-month, into a growing company that is now seeing profits of $1,000-$1,500/month.

This business is turnkey and your success depends only on the amount of effort you want to put into it.

How can the future owner improve the business?

We've really just begun. Our customer-base is healthy and that's with very minimal online marketing efforts. If you're well versed in Google AdWords, Facebook, and Twitter Ads the sky's the limit. There is a very large market of dog owners across Canada. All you need to do is find a way to connect with them.

What work have you put into the store?

We've made significant changes to the company already. We've recently gone through a complete rebranding exercise. We had a new logo, a new Shopify theme, and new marketing materials designed. We've also worked very hard with our friends at ReCharge to fine tune the recurring billing system that is the backbone of Bowzer Box.
