General description

Ethical fashion accessories brand and social enterprise dedicated to the financial empowerment of women and girls. Catrinka's artisanal luxury, textile and leather handbags and small accessories are made by women, many of them indigenous textile artisans, in Mexico and India and a share of the proceeds of each product sold supports the Catrinka Girls Project, an education and life skills mentoring program for indigenous Mayan girls. The brand launched in February 2012 and the Shopify store in October 2013.

Why should someone buy this store?

I have very engaged, motivated and loyal customers and followers, offering a great platform, and 3+ years of data and analytics.

How can the future owner improve the business?

I am not great at online retail and e-comm and there are myriad ways the store could be improved. I did basic SEO but it could be improved. The merchandising and styling could be improved a lot, as could the product selection by drilling down into the data and analytics from the past three years and making changes tailored to customer demographics. I always had budget restrictions keeping me from investing in marketing so there is a lot that could be done with Facebook and Instagram ads, Adwords etc.

What work have you put into the store?

Everything you see on the site I put there. The theme is up to date and includes an Instagram feed, a slideshow and a homepage brand video. I hired a consultant to do the SE basics within the last year. I also benefited from a few months of work from a social media consultant who helped refine my social media postings and identify potential influencers and followers. I have done a few months of Facebook ads but no Adwords or other online marketing due to budget restrictions.
