General description

Shortlisted as a finalist in the British Small Business Awards 2017, Dust & Dance is a truly remote business: you own the brand, the products, have high margins and aggressive growth but you don’t have to touch anything other than your laptop. Appealing to the highly sought after millennial market, Dust & Dance has a high degree of self-marketing through word of mouth and social sharing. Automated email workflows are set up so you can watch the money come in from these campaigns without lifting a finger. With a decent fanbase to exploit through re-targeting and a huge opportunity for customer acquisition as the glitter trend spreads globally. The brand has been left open (non-glitter centric) to diversify further into any areas of fashion/beauty & millennial trends – so where will you take Dust & Dance?!

This branded eCommerce retailer is focused in the red-hot fashionable dance, party and event-specific styling, makeup and apparel accessory niche, focusing (on the much sought after) Millennial-centric and their contemporary music cultures and subcultures, ranging from the underground raver to the EDM mainstream and everything in between. The company sells a large array of private label products, including chunky and fine glitters, face gems, glow in the dark glitter and now biodegradable glitter for face, hair and nails.

Thanks to improved operating processes and efficiency, this company is seeing over 15% year over year growth, as well as a marked decrease in costs and expenses; all while maintaining a 55% profit margin.

This unique retailer utilizes a hands-off fulfillment platform that requires less than 12 hours of time invested weekly by ownership, making for a simple, turn-key business that has realized measurable growth on a mostly organic platform. Currently, owner has suppliers in China & UK manufacture own branded stock, ships inventory to a UK based fulfillment distribution center who handle all orders from shopify (worldwide shipping). SO BEST OF BOTH WORLDS: high margins from owning own products, but hands off automated fulfillment!

Having just scratched the surface of its potential, this retailer has yet to tap its greatest resource yet – Amazon sales channels and FBA fulfillment. Since the company has yet to launch on Amazon – we find this to be the single largest value proposition available to buyers – we believe that the company can at least double in size through a proper launch on Amazon.

This unique retailer is a solid revenue generator that is a prime opportunity for a strategic acquisition by any fashion retailer, but also offers a fantastic and easy entry into the online retail space for a new entrant into eCommerce segment – it is rare for a margins-maximized eCommerce retailer to come available that is seeing this kind of growth and overall platform improvement all without touching the power of Amazon, the #1 destination for consumer products. This is an acquisition opportunity that is not to be missed!

PLEASE NOTE: assets include shopify store, domain name, social media accounts, mailchimp database (17.5k sign ups), INVENTORY (can be shipped), all IP, photography, branding, supplier contacts etc.

ALSO: Lat years revenue was in fact higher at $278,776.02 due to some additional revenue streams outside of shopify (wholesale and events - only scratched the surface here, huge potential to increase this and have a lot of fun if you like music festivals too!)

Financials and traffic

It is a seasonal business and in low season now. So if you can get your hand on this before the UK festival season starts (in May) you will be guaranteed to make a tidy sum this year.

Q & A

Why should someone buy this store?

Because it is profitable, easy and for the right person can be very fun! Also has huge opportunities to improve (see below). It is time for me to pass on the sparkly flame to someone else who would like to scale this further, as I now have other projects to pursue. I started the business with £100 of my own money and wanted the challenge of making something profitable with no outside investment or loans. I get bored easily and am starting on new projects now that Dust & Dance has been such a success, so want to sell up now so I can focus on new projects.

How can the future owner improve the business?

• Huge opportunity to increase business outside of the UK (which would protect against UK seasonality) • Huge opportunity to diversify brand in either beauty or fashion or both (brand was deliberately made in a way that didn’t pigeonhole it into just glitter products for future growth opportunities) • Opportunity to utilize unused social media channels: Youtube, Pinterest, Snapchat etc. • Opportunity to utilize more influencer marketing • Selling through Amazon, Ebay and Etsy etc. • Business development for wholesale (so far all wholesale business has come to Dust & Dance – no pro-active business development done yet) • Greater success with paid social media (owner is not an expert but has had some good results on low budgets) • Very little pro-active PR carried out (most of PR coverage has come through journalists approaching Dust & Dance) – a PR agency could be utilized here • PPC has been done a little by the owner (early 2016 – mostly experimenting!) but not long term as she isn’t an expert and the business was doing very well organically without paying for clicks – but the right person or contractor could do this properly • An SEO expert could optimize the website. Generally, has been top page of google for key terms in last year but this is through owners limited expertise of SEO so this could be improved upon • Festivals and events • A Facebook ads expert should be used
