Makeblock Shop is selling Makeblock products only. We have started doing this since almost 2,5 years. From the beginning we have focussed on rich information, educating customers, and supporting potential Makeblock customers. We have strongly focussed on offering the best possible experience in the market. One of our most developed customer segments is the Educational Market. We are a clear niche player in a market where most/all competitor stores are trying to sell every brand possible in this segment. We have decided to select one brand in full depth and breadth. And as we strongly believe in Makeblock's approach and products, this has been our prime product pick. And our approach has proved to be highly succesful. Our prime URL in Shopify shows .NL, but we own 9 VERY STRONG INTERNATIONAL DOMAIN NAMES.

About Makeblock: Makeblock Co., Ltd is a robotics startup from Shenzhen established in 2013. Its main brand Makeblock, founded in 2011, is a leading DIY robotics construction and STEM education platform for makers, hobbyists, STEM learners, and educators. Makeblock empowers people to turn ideas into reality by providing STEM Kits, Tech Kits, DIY Kits, a building block platform of over 500 mechanical parts and easy-to-use electronic modules, graphical programming software, and online and offline courses. As technology becomes increasingly more advanced, maker & STEM education will also become essential.

Financials and traffic

We are still in the building up phase, and have prepared ourselves for the next phase. We have done a lot of investments to support this. These investments have clearly impacted our 2017 profit margin. But that has been our conscious decision.

We have invested heavily in Google Adwords, Google Shopping, Apps to help us with localization (language, search, tax), Social Media and connections with our customers. We have also invested heavily in a connection with a financial system (Exact) and reporting tools to make it easy to do the financial administration etc. We use an accountant and used other consultants. We have bought some of our domain names on the market. This is also impacting the current profit margin, and the profit margin per month. So the numbers are rounded and on average for 2017.

Great store setup, after 2 years proven track record, great potential, right and 9 strong INTERNATIONAL URL's, very good reviews. Great fun to work in this segment.

How can the future owner improve the business?

We need to step out due to personal circumstances. This business is still in the beginning phase, and in a market which is really exploding at the moment. More and more schools are looking for STEM and STEAM learning solutions. The store can be improved on many aspects. And Makeblock has a solid line of products available today, but a lot of good stuff is coming in the near future.

What work have you put into the store?

Build it up from the ground up, based on a business plan and business idea we had together. We selected a solid template fitting our business. We have put in a lot of work to get the right look and feel, making a translatable into multiple languages, making it possible for visitors to find products and product information easy. Supporting the European business model including Tax demands (f.i. EU Tax exempt). Translations, writing text, and much more
