General description

Preppers Supplies is a UK based shop supplying emergency supplies to Preppers in the UK. There are estmimated to be over 3 million US preppers and the UK scene is also growing very fast in this direction. We have generated sales, and facebook follows naturally from this market growth, and certainly not due to any effort made by myself........ with no new posts on facebook we still seem to be attracting followers. Our customer base also included those with an interest in military, and Busch-craft and Survival.

The website was started in October 2017 and live by the end of the year, it was given a small push in 2017 and it remains more or less the same now. As stock has sold I have made the choice not to replace it, as such much of the products advertised are without stock. This has had a negative effect on the websites sales potential.

Shortly after starting this store I got a new job which demanded high commitment and frequent travel. As such this store has been somewhat neglected, but nonetheless it looks like it will have excellent potential. I have been tempted over the years to put some real effort into the store, however I never seem to find the capacity to do this. I feel now is the right time to pass this over to someone who can properly promote the business.

Financials and traffic

Sales from the store are roughly £200 and generate circa 25% profit. Recently sales have been over £400 due to higher visits, but this is likely to reduce after April as I do not have any intention to replace stock.

I have not included in this £300 in sales which I had to cancel because I was travelling for business and unavailable to fulfill the order.

Q & A

Why should someone buy this store?

This store seems to generate sales and facebook follows passively with very little effort , I expect if someone where to promote it the business would accelerate.

As a further point "prepping" is a highly attractive subject to media. I have in two cases not responded to National Media outlets (one newspaper, one tv company) when offered to interview. Doing so would have generated significant footfall for the site, but this would have also conflicted with my other commitments, as such I could not.

Finally this site is priced to sell fast....... shopify exchange platform estimates this site at $3.7k

UPDATE! I have had a few interested parties and a few questions lately. Instead of responding to each of you individually I thought I would answer all questions in a single repsonse, so you can all benefit from the same information.

Questions regarding Sales and Visits

  1. April sales currently stand at £353.05 (1-14 April) and visits at 549 during the same time frame. 16 Add to cart 9 Reached checkout and 3 Purchased.
  2. March did see a spike in visits, on one day I received 150 visits, I think 100 visits look like some type of spam. Otherwise I would expect to see better number of visits in Spring because it is a better time to buy + test survival gear in the UK. So circa 1065 non-spam visits looks about right to me and my April visits so far seem to support this.

Questions about valuation and stock

  1. Current stock is valued as follows £460.55 of Survival Food (if needs be I can keep food and add to my personal holding) and £970.27 in all other survival equipment. This is subject to change if items sell. The value is “stock at value” i.e. what I paid the supplier and I can offer a more detailed list if this does progress.
  2. Yes I would consider an offer for less than the asking price, however there seems to be reasonable interest, so may be inclined to wait for a better offer. If however someone offers the asking price and agrees to buy the survival equipment at £970.27 then it is a done deal. I don’t wish to use interest “ramp up” the price …. I would much rather have a simple straightforward and fast transaction that everyone is happy with, so first come first serve suits me fine.
  3. I don’t keep my stock in a warehouse it is held in a property that I own. Any arrangement to hold stock in the UK would have to be arranged by the purchaser.
  4. I will pay the delivery to an agreed UK location for any stock purchased.

Other Questions

  1. Regarding the mainstream media requests, I was contacted by a Journalist for comment in the Daily Telegraph Magazine at 9.37am 22/04/17 for an article. Also by a TV production company (documentary I suspect) on 12:26pm 15 June 2017. I can evidence this if needed. I did not proceed with either as I have no interest in being in the media….. opportunities like this would be great publicity for someone less introvert!

I hope this helps and apologies if you have had to wait for it. Please get in touch if you would like to progress.

How can the future owner improve the business?

In almost every way.........

The biggest potential of this site to get traffic would be to use the national media's interest in prepping to generate traffic. I have also included a few other improvements below;

1 - Restock products/ find new products. 2 - Include dropship products 3 - Broaden market (Buschcraft, survival) 4 - Promote via prepper sites 5 - Engage with customers on Facebook 6 - Use the mailing list

What work have you put into the store?

Most of the work I have put in was in the first 3 months. This included; - Creating the website and sourcing the products - Generating online visibility (links) from Prepper specific websites. - Connecting with the Prepper community to increase exposure.

How many hours does it take to run this business per week?

1 hours
