General description

Surfaced Clothing is a women’s online clothing store selling apparel from popular brands. The store was launched in 2016. The site has been customized and optimized (SEO management). We were also featured in People Magazines Style Section and on their site; as well as many blogging sites! (I’ll include those photos below)

I’ve spent the last two years growing this store through social media and google ads. Also, a lot of time has been put into contacting and building relationships with buyers for the established brands we carry. I chose brands that are known to sell out fast on other stores and they have been doing just that on Surfaced as well. My influencer relationships have helped build the brand awareness as well.

The photos on the site have been taken by my friend who is a photographer at a local studio. Before moving my business to LA I took the photos at an at home studio (if you live near the area I can definitely offer recommendations). Product photos can be offered by the brands as well.

I’ve decided to sell my store because I opened it during my freshman year of college not knowing how much time it would take up. Now, two years later and much busier, I’m unable to provide Surfaced with the attention it needs. I’ve also had zero experience with online marking so there is huge potential with that since little has been done so far.

Our average sales reached $6k per month when I was able to put my full attention into it. I haven’t been able to buy as much products due to the overload of school work which is why the sales have been lower these past few months.

2017 highlights:

Total orders: 528 (6% Increase)

Conversion rate: 2.43%

Designers carried: 28 (connected to many more on my online market accounts where you can view their linesheets and place orders) Surfaced is also invited to trade shows held across the country for an in person buying experience.

This industry is constantly growing, I was able to create a new store and receive my first sale quickly because people know and trust these brands.

How can the future owner improve the business?

I’ve never been able to utilize digital marketing, it’s pretty much a non ventured territory at this point.

What work have you put into the store?

I’ve customized the entire site for an easy to use experience, I’ve hired seo managers and google ad managers, I’ve built a social media following and newsletter list, and I’ve reached out to many of the top brands in contemporary women’s fashion and was able to create relationships with brands that normally don’t allow their clothing to be sold on other eccomerce sites since they’re more exclusive.
