The Wee Shop Organics offers a range of certified organic fresh fruit and vegetables. These are usually seasonal and are sourced locally where possible. The shop also sells a large number of top quality wholefoods such as branded or bulk bin wholegrains, legumes, nuts, seeds and superfoods and fresh or dried herbs and spices. In addition there is a wide range of healthy oils, beverages such as teas and cold drinks, condiments, ice cream and vitamin supplements. These are all carefully selected and sourced, hoping to get only the best possible products within each category because the shop is so...wee.

We had a physical point of sale located here in Ruby Bay, New Zealand. We offered a wide variety of organic products, from teas to bulk food. We had a side business of veggie boxes therefore every week we prepared the boxes full of goodies and then we delivered them locally. Beside that we had the online store that we didn't really boost that much, but every now and then we received online orders and they helped us to keep up our online presence. We mainly got our customers thanks to our facebook page: 90% of our veggie box customers came from there and they were redirected to our website where they could choose a box (from three different sizes) and then also add other products into their basket.

We decided to close our shop four months ago because we wanted to move on with other projects. We were aware that we could have improved and done much more on our website (like changing the theme, increase the online presence with instagram, get more products) but our intention wasn't there anymore.

Why should someone buy this store?

It is a lovely website and so easy for customers to use. It is has a wide following and a good online presence. The facebook page has nothing but lovely reviews and it is such a positive shop to own and operate.

How can the future owner improve the business?

More products, more attention to the online promotion and advertising. It could also be beneficial to have online credit card and paypal payments. The graphic could be improved. Instagram could be improved.

What work have you put into the store?

We have set the shop up, sourced all the products and maintained a great credit rating with all suppliers and customers.

Advertising: we had a physical shop and our customers got to know it by word of mouth and mainly facebook. Part of the business was fruit & veggie box delivery and the 80/90% of our customers got to know us thanks to facebook. We did a few local markets but they didn't really help that much. The sales went up because we placed more ads on facebook and we had more customers during summer time. Then they started going down because of the opening of another shop quite close to us and they took most of our customers.

ROI: Our shop was integrated to our family life, it fed us, paid us, provided us with all the natural remedies and medicines. We were doing too many things and our energy were scattered so it wasn't worthy it for us to keep going and we are not sales people either. I can tell you that working 4 weeks a day we got paid $200 a week, plus food, medicines, herbs, etc. BUT, we didn't focus on the online shop: focusing much more on it we could have increased a lot our profits, that is a big business that doesn't need a physical point of sale.
