I've always had a dream of having a product or brand which I could call my own and build a legacy for my kids, in my youth I spent hours customising t-shirts with hand drawn artwork. Obviously some of these never made the light of day as they were horrendous but this memory gave me the spring board to creating TOR.
The idea is to source great illustrators who wouldn't mind following my creative briefs and having their artwork printed upon clothing & accessories. I decided to start out with neck warmers as I'm a keen snowboarder and was always put off by the boring solid colour, repeatable pattern or crazy faced neck/face warmers. I wanted something stylish and functional which I'd be happy to wear on the slopes and down the bar after a hard day on the mountain.
Which brings us to today... "The Matterhorn", our first range has been produced! And I'm already excited about getting other illustrators on board.
I still hold half the stock which I've not had the opportunity to sell due to other commitments. I currently have 20 neck warmers in storage with associated material such as stickers and zip-pulls which I gave away for free with each order. I had plans to create summer stock which would be light weight neck warmers and to move into custom printed gloves, jackets etc.
This could also be moved to a dropship model with the right supplier
My primary source of customers was through social media a lot of my sales came from snowboarding groups and instagram posts. You'd be able to get a lot more customers through Facebook advertising.
Generating sales as monetary figure was just time as I didn't have a advertising budget, but you could easily ramp this side of the business up during the winter season and sell stock quite easily with the correct audience.
Unfortunately I'm selling the business as I haven't had time to even market it last winter and moving forward I just don't have enough time. It's with a heavy heart that I'm moving this project onto someone who can hopefully take it to the next level.
